In 1987, at the age of 24, Jim Reynolds journeyed through parts of Tibet off-limits to foreigners. He was aided by a homemade document that claimed he was on an official study of the area's flora & fauna. Throughout his trip, Reynolds traded contraband pictures of the Dalai Lama for yak-butter tea & other staples. Hiking, biking, hitchhiking through Tibet, he visited the sacred places of Tibetan Buddhism. Jim ended his journey by traveling to Thailand & becoming an ordained Buddhist monk. His royalties from this book are being donated to Buddhist & organizations & Tibetan refugee projects. The foreword to the book is written by his boss, the Dalai Lama.
